The original version of this project was made with an assortment of Christmas prints, mostly from Sweetwater. For this remix, we're showing you how it looks in a cohesive collection, Simply Cozy by Zen Chic, which has just arrived in shops! Check out the other mock ups I have to share at the end of this post, too. It would also look great in other seasonal color themes, like patriotic or Halloween.
This project uses a few different techniques to make different components of the block. One important technique is strip piecing, which means you will sew long strips together and then cross cut the strips as shown below. This allows you to avoid having to cut and piece together loads of very tiny squares and makes your sewing process more efficient.
Once you have all the components, you'll join them together to make a block that looks like this:
When piecing the blocks together, take note of the background print placement to create the strip effect once they are joined together.
I quilted this one with straight lines using my walking foot and followed some of the seams as a guide.
Once you have it all quilted, it is time to add the binding. For table runners, I will often sew the binding to the back and finish on the front by machine.
I really love how this one turned out and always love the chance to use a subtle print like this Dotty Thatched in the background of my projects.
I have included a couple of mock ups in other new collections arriving to shops this month: Berry & Pine by Lella Boutique and Tiny Christmas by Lizzy House. Which one is your favorite?
If your local shop is carrying one of these collections, ask them to kit one up for you or help you select prints from another collection that catches your eye!
Next month, we will be making the Split Stripes Pattern. I will meet you back here on July 17th!
