Chatsworth Quilt-Along: Block Setting and Braided Flying Geese

Hello and welcome back to the Chatsworth Quilt-Along!

This month we are moving onto the Block Setting pieces and the Braided Flying Geese Blocks.

Block Setting

We are moving onto the Block Setting pieces to start off this month, so gather all your pieced Blocks 1-12, Background, and Accent Fabric (we finally get to use this fabric!). I found it was very helpful to have my Bloc Loc ruler to help trim up the HST in this step of the quilt since there are several to make. Be sure to watch my Block Setting video over on Moda's YouTube Channel -- in it, I give you many helpful hints and tips for assembling this part of the quilt. I love making the smaller blocks into larger blocks!

Now we get to have some fun! Gather all your scraps from your leftover Assorted Prints from each Block 1-12 -- yes, all the scraps!

Before we create this fun block, you have to choose: Traditional Piecing or Foundation Paper Piecing. Whichever piecing method you choose, you will get the same outcome in the end. I have created a video for this block that walks you thought both piecing options. I tried to keep each block scrappy and not repeat any Assorted Prints in each block.

Doug's Tips:

  • Use my Chatsworth Braided Flying Geese foundation papers to create no-fuss, perfect braided flying geese!

Be sure to check out our Chatsworth Facebook Group! It sure is fun to see everyone’s block and fabric choices.

See you next month on August 22 for our final Chatsworth Quilt-Along post -- the full quilt setting.
