Sampler quilts have always been popular, and modern quilters have shown a special fondness for creating heirloom sampler quilts today.
Participating in a sampler quilt along is a terrific way for quilters to try out new techniques and fabric combinations. Hosting a sampler quilt along is a wonderful way for a shop to help new quilters along their quilting journey. Making a sampler quilt hosted by my local quilt shop was really the thing that helped me realize how much I loved quilting.
A couple of years ago I began working on the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt by Laurie Aaron Hird. I decided to make an all Fig Tree version using as many Fig Tree collections as I could in my blocks.
It was so fun to see how all the different collections played so wonderfully together!
Sometimes I mixed collections within blocks, and sometimes I used a single group of fabrics to create the blocks--either way, it all seemed to work together.
Andrea Marquez, who did the quilting, made every block shine!
Some of the simple blocks are my favorites...
Although I have many, many favorites in this quilt. What sampler quilt is on your list?
(There are a few more photos and a few more thoughts on this quilt over at my blog today)!
